ONES TO WATCH: THE DESIGN FORECASTS OF 2019

ONES TO WATCH: THE DESIGN FORECASTS OF 2019

This month our eagle-eyed studio team are keeping you ahead of the curve with the design trends expected to take off next year…

UNIVERSAL MOVEMENTS

UNIVERSAL MOVEMENTS

Colours will be even more courageous –bold and supersaturated tones are here to stay, as well as the continuing comeback of gradients, the eclectic use of textures and patterns and new experimentations with asymmetry, all contributing to striking and eye-catching pieces. Further enabling user interaction, animations are expected to be integrated across all media, in addition to isometric designs and the increased use of augmented reality. Perhaps in contrast, creators will sway much more towards naturalnatural looking photos – stock photos that don’t look like stock photos!

INTERFACE & EXPERIENCE

INTERFACE & EXPERIENCE

The mobile first mind-set will continue for web designers, following Google indexing mobile responsive websites first. For many less is more, with an amplified use of negative space in all fields. On a similar note, typography is often used in the place of images or videos are chosen in order to make a statement. Custom made and 3D illustrations and animations will continue to take web design by storm and be incorporated into micro-interactions. Again asymmetry reappears in this category, where fluid, geometrical shapes will be ever more present and broken grids and overlapping elements will create an exciting experience.

PACKAGING PREDICTIONS

PACKAGING PREDICTIONS

Bold colours and big fonts are both a must for packaging in 2019. A strong word and solid colour can be enough to create outstanding packaging. In the same vein, often less is more – though it may be tempting to feature lots of text or fonts, this can create a cluttered design. Minimalism is the way forward. In 2019 the use of non-traditional materials will remain, including natural packaging and that suited to the zero waste movement. Plantable, edible and bio-based materials are all types of packaging options that innovative brands are exploring and should be considered when creating designs.

BOLD BRANDING & LIVING LOGOS

BOLD BRANDING & LIVING LOGOS

For distinctive and creative brand outcomes, working with colour channels and building upon primary colours will be effective. Again, something found and loved in all design fields, illustrations will be a hit in branding next year, in addition to animated logos, both helping to bring a concept to life.

MOTION GRAPIC MOTIONS

MOTION GRAPIC MOTIONS

Flat 2D and 3D illustrative animations will remain popular next year, the former attracting users attention and delivering a message easily to reach an audience, and the latter providing a high conversion rate in effective advertising campaigns. The popularity of the grain effect will continue and be used across the 2D and 3D projects.
