HUB HITS THE PUB

The pub sector is evolving, it’s no longer just the place for a roast dinner and a pint of beer, and with growth of food-led venues there is greater need for diversification in their offerings to attract customers and stand out from the crowd. Looking to wider consumer dining trends, there is an exciting world of innovative flavours and interactive concepts open to pub operators. Pub19 at London Olympia, is one of the biggest dates in the calendar for publicans and suppliers to come together to celebrate the latest innovations for pubs!

This is the fifth year the event brought influential industry leaders and creative ideas together under one roof. Upon entering the Olympia you automatically feel at home in the constructed pub arena, as you explore the show you find every product to suit every kind of publican. With more than 200 exhibitors, 50 industry speakers and thousands of visitors, there was a great buzz.

From new and exciting mixer flavours to accompany gin to packets of pub staples like pork scratchings, Pub19 fully immersed us in modern British pub experiences. As the trend and demand for authentic global flavours within pubs is on the rise, our client Ajinomoto Foods Europe was very busy throughout the show demonstrating the cooking and serving of delicious Gyozas and offering advice to operators on how to incorporate Japanese flavours in to their menus. It was great to see new and exciting products, from all suppliers at the show, being introduced into the pub environment to help grow and maintain British pub culture.

Pub19 hosted a number of industry talks and workshops throughout both days of the show to appeal to every visitor, from a talk addressing staff turnover and recruitment solutions in pub environments at The Pub Theatre to a fresh and honest approach to wine in the UK at The Taste Table, we were spoilt for choice with interesting hot topics. We attended a talk at The Pub Trends Bar about the UK’s first organic pub, it was great to hear from Geetie Singh-Watson about running a certified organic pub and organic trends, which are now becoming the norm.

The event seems to get bigger with more innovative ideas each year, we saw several trends coming through the show that we are sure will make a massive impact on 2019! Alcohol Free and Premiumisation were all clearly present at the show across all suppliers, which gives us a key insight into what’s to come from pub environments. It was a great forum for like minded industry professionals to forge and develop relationships, share ideas and tap into most recent consumer trends. We are already looking forward to Pub20!
