Top highlights from the world's largest coffee event
Every year, the global coffee community comes together to attend the biggest event in the industry - World of Coffee. This month we were excited to attend with our client, DaVinci Gourmet, at the renowned Hungexpo Fair Center in Hungary.
This year's event was bigger and better than ever before, with 6,800 visitors attending from over 100 countries to network and discover new and exciting brands. From roasters to machines, to cold brew and speciality beverages, an impressive line up of 234 innovative coffee suppliers showcased their products across the 3-day event. Alongside the trade-show, world-class baristas competed in championships to demonstrate their latte art and signature beverage skills.
A key trend that dominated the event this year was dairy-free and caffeine-free alternatives. New to the market, Swiss Water - which is committed to crafting amazing coffee without the coffee - has created a 100% chemical-free decaffeination process, that tasted just as good as the real thing! Plant-power brand Alpro showcased its new range for professionals including Almond, Soya and Coconut drinks, which work for both hot and cold applications. While Chalo served up its funky alternative to coffee, an authentic Indian Chai Latte with less caffeine and more spice.
The event also demonstrated the latest sustainability innovations within machinery. Bluecup showcased its environmentally friendly refill capsules. Targeted at businesses and consumers, the innovative new product makes it easy to choose your own coffee beans or ready-ground coffee to create your own bespoke capsules that are recyclable too.
The exhibitor line up included a number of local Hungarian micro-roasters, our highlights included Black Sheep, which has recently undergone a complete graffiti-style rebrand. The branding represents the new wave of fruity coffees, whilst still meeting demand for the traditional classic dark roasts. We also stopped by the Schluter stand to discover new Nitro Cold Brew Coffee - a must try!
For those looking to enhance their education in the process of speciality coffee, Copenhagen-based Coffee Academy, CoffeeMind showcased its training platforms. Working In collaboration with SCA, it has created a number of sensory performance and roasting foundation courses.
We also celebrated a fantastic win for our client, DaVinci Gourmet which was awarded Best Speciality Beverage in the Best New Product Awards 2017 for its product innovation. The judges awarded its refreshing Garden Mint Lemonade - a beverage created using a combination of the DaVinci Gourmet Garden Mint syrup and Sicilian Lemonade.
Known for its legendary coffee shops, Amsterdam will play host to next years World of Coffee from 19th-21st June.
