Bunga Bunga Bottomless Brunch Bonanza

While many of my friends are taking part in dry January this year, I stood against the movement and decided to extend the festivities into the New Year. Well, I had a bottomless brunch booked in for a friend’s birthday at the renowned Bunga Bunga restaurant in Covent Garden – one definitely not to miss! Tucked away on Drury Lane beneath the New London Theatre and with a sister restaurant in Battersea, Bunga Bunga has become a go-to destination for brunch lovers.

We all met for our 11:30am slot on the ground level of the restaurant – an inconspicuous family pizzeria and bar. Then, we were led below ground, through the meat locker and into an incredible, and quite bonkers, secret world, served platters of delicious Italian food, drinks flowing and a never-ending, extremely entertaining variety show.

We were lucky enough to be seated in the Emperor’s Box, with the birthday girl sat in the regal throne! First of all we were faced with a tough decision – a glass of prosecco or a fruity Bellini? After we had all decided our tipple of choice, the food for our matinee brunch started to make its way out. Warm and crisp brioche bread, served with creamy burrata cheese, pickles and homemade tomato jam was joined on the table by a glorious antipasto plate, consisting of succulent bresaola, coppa, mortadella and finocchiona salami.

After devouring our sharing starters and enjoying never ending top-ups of prosecco and Bellinis, we were visited by the house magician who performed impressive card tricks, followed by a cops and robbers comedy act. Then came the main event – the metre long, authentic brunch pizzas. Each glorious pizza consisted of three different toppings – the first Tuscan sausage, tomato, mozzarella, pancetta and a baked egg, the second Quattro formaggi (mozzarella, gorgonzola, Taleggio and parmesan) and the third mozzarella, spinach and stracchino cream – not a crumb in sight after we had finished!

In classic Italian style, brunch was rounded off with a scrumptious pistachio soufflé for dessert (including a sparkler for the birthday girl), a final glass of fizz and a fantastic rendition of ‘New York, New York’. An immersive brunch experience that will certainly be remembered (by most of us!) and most definitely visited again for another celebration!
