CLARE HADWAY, Supply Chain Development Manager, Soil Association
Can you tell us a little about how you got involved with the industry?
I’ve always had a passion for food and been interested in healthy eating. I studied food marketing at university. Upon completing my degree I worked in New Product Development for a number of Food Manufacturers. Four years ago I took the opportunity to change direction slightly and joined the Soil Association.
..and what originally attracted you to working with food ?
It’s such an interesting, diverse and fast moving industry.
If you had to sum up three positives and three negatives of working for an association what would they be?
There are so many positives to working for the Soil Association. I get to work with lots of like-minded people who are very passionate about what they do. In my role as Supply Chain Development Manager I get to meet lots of new and interesting people and learn so much about different elements of the supply chain, which I find fascinating. Most importantly I help create really positive changes throughout the whole supply chain from farmers all the ways to school children and hospital patients. It’s very hard to think of negatives to my work but one thing that is hard to deal with it the extent to which change is required and how entrenched organisations and consumers can be in their attitudes towards food. It takes a long time to changes people buying behaviors and habits.
What’s the best thing about being involved with The Soil Association
Being told by food suppliers and caterers that the work we do is making a real difference to their businesses and customers.
When you aren’t busy at work, what would we find you doing to relax?
I love cooking, using new ingredients and trying new recipes. I also enjoy an active lifestyle so lots of running, cycling and generally being outdoors!
